The boy brought friends home with him from school today. One of them asked me when I'd be buying him a car seeing as how he's old enough to drive now. Yeah, about that..... Never! His friends were shocked at that answer. The boy.... not so much.
I've told my two for as long as I can remember that when they were old enough they would have to earn the money to buy their own cars, pay for their own insurance, gas, etc.
I don't think I'm being mean or depriving them. I think that anything you have to work for you value more. It means that much more for you to be able to say you earned the money and paid for it yourself.

You're absolutely right on this one, Dear! Kids are all too spoiled these days. I would have liked to have had just the USE of my parents' car (a Cadillac back in the day)!
I've had some computer problems the last few days so just read this post. But I am led to ask if you were a military wife? If you were, I am psychic! And only a custodial, single parent (BTW) can really know what-ALL that entails! God bless you -- you're in the toughest time frame of their lives right now?
You did just RIGHT, Sweetie!
Were you in the military or partners with a military man? That could be where the discipline comes from. It will serve them well -- the real purpose behind parental discipline is the development of their own self-discipline for when they are on their own! BTW, I love your recent poem & lost a comment I was trying to make there.
Military brat yes, military wife no. But I was in the Army myself. I always thought the hardest part was going to be when they were little. That was a piece of cake compared to now.
